Pinewood nips BA in extras

    Pinewood Christian Academy scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to nip Bulloch Academy 9-8 at a soggy Gator Alley Tuesday.
    The Gators (1-1) held a 7-6 lead after six innings but the Patriots pushed a run across in the top of the seventh to tie the score. Bulloch couldn’t answer back and in the game went into the extra frame.
    Pinewood scored twice in the top of the eighth for a 9-7 lead. In the bottom of the frame with two outs, Drew Cheshire walked and scored on a Win Lee single to pull Bulloch to within one. Michael DeLoach was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Jordan Walker drilled a grounder in the middle of the infield but the Patriot defense made the game-ending play.
    In the opening inning, PCA chased Lee from the mound, tagging the BA starter for six runs. But the Gator defense settled down behind reliever Davis Howell for six innings. Walker Blitch came on in the eighth and was tagged with the loss.
    The Bulloch bats chipped away at the Patriot lead, scoring two in the second, two in the third, one in the fifth and two in the sixth. In the sixth, Taylor Burke singled, Matthew Sapp reached on an error and Cheshire walked. DeLoach ripped a two-run single to give the Gators the lead.
    Both DeLoach and Howell went 2-for-3 to lead the Gator offense while both Burke and Walker were 2-for-4.
     Bulloch hosts David Emanuel Academy Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
