BROOKLET — Sometimes when it rains, it pours.
The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets couldn't stop Jefferson County's explosive offense Friday night, falling 41-14 on homecoming at a wet and rainy Fred Shaver Field.
The Warriors of Jefferson (6-2, 5-0) scored in every quarter and racked up 402 yards of total offense.
Junior running back Lamar Brown ran for 104 yards and three scores while senior quarterback Dennis Thomas threw for 187 yards on 11-of-20 passing.
The Yellow Jackets (1-7, 0-5) got as close as 14 in the second quarter and actually were threatening a comeback when Dray Lingle picked off a Thomas pass and returned it to the Jefferson 22. SEB fumbled away the next play and failed to take advantage of the only Warrior turnover on the night.
"Again, penalties and turnovers," said SEB head coach Mike Ward. "We just have to continue to grow. You talk about mismatches but you just can't have mistakes."
After getting down 21-0 early in the second, junior Arsenio Wright broke through Jefferson's line to block a punt and take it 15 yards for the score to give SEB some momentum at 21-7. But the score remained unchanged at halftime and the Warriors came out of the locker room a dominant team.
Jefferson took the opening drive of the second half 13 plays and 89 yards to go up 27-7 on Eric Hannah's 18-yard scamper. They would add another score at the 1:01 mark when Brown broke a 37-yarder away from the SEB defense for his final touchdown and carry of the game.
The lead reached 34 at 6:58 of the fourth quarter when reserve quarterback Terry Hatcher went in from 56 yards out on a QB keeper. Yellow Jacket Tyler Robbins scored SEB's lone offensive touchdown with a 12-yard run in the closing minutes.
"Credit our kids," said Ward. "They continue to show up and play hard and none of them have quit on us so far. It was another hard fought effort and they're not laying down on us."
Things did get a little testy in the third quarter when SEB linebacker Scotty Beegle was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct, the first of two straight misconduct calls on the Jackets. Beegle will be forced to miss next week's game as well.
Jefferson opened the scoring with a 26-yard run by Brown, followed by five-yard dive to give the Warriors a 14-0 lead. Adrian Gaston added a four-yard run in the second quarter to push the advantage to 21.
Jefferson County was penalized 13 times for 100 yards while SEB was flagged eight times for 68 yards in a game that lasted almost two-and-a-half hours. Both teams had one turnover.
Southeast travels to Metter next week while Jefferson returns home to face Laney.
