Mock and Panthers heat up

Brandon Mock threw for 85 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-8 win over rival Claxton on Friday.
The Portal Panthers have gone through quite a season. After starting out 0-5, Portal has won two straight. Much of the turnaround has to do with the play of senior quarterback Brandon Mock.
"He's a tremendous leader," said PHS head coach Justin Chester. "He never really looks down, he's always very positive."
Mock threw for two touchdowns and 85 yard against rival Claxton in a 30-8 win this past Friday to bring Portal back into the playoff picture at 2-1 in region play.
And being the leader he is, Mock was quick to deflect any praise to his teammates.
“It’s a team effort and everyboy’s just coming together,” he said. “The receivers have a lot to do with it and that goes right along with our offensive line. Like I said, it’s a team effort.”
Mock has thrown for 709 yards on 50 of 94 passing with five TDs. He also ran for five scores.
One of the Panthers’ preseason goals was to win the programs’ first region title. Mock thinks that’s still within reach.
“I’ve got all the confidence in the world in our team right now,” he said.
