Southern Anglers Challenge bass team fishing trail completed its 08 season at Stokes Bluff on the Savannah River Saturday May 17th. The team of Danny Houck and Eddie Rogers both from Allendale, SC placed first with a five bass limit that weighed 17.84 pounds. The largest bass was caught by the team of Perry Yawn and Patrick McCrary both from Statesboro that weighed 7.12 pounds. Thirty-one teams participated with most catching fish. The team of David Cole from Swainsboro and Tracy Burnsed from Eden won the point championship with a total of 2154 points; by winning point champion they will receive 6 free entry fees for the 09 season and be the first boat in the blast off order. The winning team and largest bass winner were given a polygraph test by Joseph Gallimore of Polygraph and Investigative Services for the Southeast with both teams passing. A polygraph is given at random during the year to insure and honest tournament trail. 98% of the bass caught during the tournament were released back into the river alive.     The Screven County Gamecocks were knocked out of the GHSA Class AA playoffs in Game Two Wednesday by North Oconee in an 18-7 decision advancing the Titans to the Final Four.
    After Tuesdays game was rained out with NOHS holding a 3-2 advantage heading in to the bottom of the fourth, it was started over Wednesday, with SCHS’s Jeremy Rosier getting the start.
    The Gamecocks used five pitchers and gave up 16 hits and five walks. There were four hit batsmen, and the Screven defense committed five errors.
    The Screven bats chipped away throughout the contest. Joel Collins finished 2-for-3 and crossed the plate twice, Rosier and Andrew Reddick each singled in a pair of runs, Jon Rash had a double and an RBI and Garrett Bates had an RBI single.
    The trip to the quarterfinals is the farthest Screven has advanced in the state playoffs since 2001. In 1999, 2000, and 2001, the Gamecocks were eliminated by the eventual state champions.

Bulloch County runs in GRPA Track Meet
On May 2 and 3 in Carrolton, GA, 36 athletes from Bulloch County participated in the Georgia Recreational and Park Association Class B and C State Track Meet. This meet was held at the Central High School Stadium.
    The meet included many events such as the 400 meter run, 4x400 meter relay, softball throw, long jump, and several others. The participants were splitinto groups based on age and gender for each event.
    In the 7-8 year old girls events, Hattie Pitts received 5th place in the 800 meter run as well as 8th place in the 400 meter run. Shekinah Smith received 6th place in the softball throw.
    For the 9-10 year old girls events, Amanda Brown made 5th place in shot put and Ashton Harley made 9th place in the softball throw.
    Ashley Burke, Nijaya White, Rasheida Randall and Keyoshinae McCrae made 4th place in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. White also made 7th place in the 100 meter dash finals and McCrae made 7th in the 400 meter dash finals. In addition, Burke placed 4th in the 1600 meter run, 8th in both the 800 meter run and the softball throw in the 11-12 year old girls events.
    For the 13-14 year old girls events, Ashanti Grant placed 7th in the 100 meter dash in addition to 8th place in the long jump.
    In the 7-8 year old boys events, Anthony Blount, Cameron Lockett, Andre Childres and Ivory Holland received 3rd place in the 4x400 meter relay and 5th place in the 4x100 meter relay. Lockett also received 1st place in the 200 meter dash finals and 3rd in the softball throw. Dre Harrison placed 7th in the standing jump and 8th in the long jump.
    Wright Rockett, Johnquez Lundy, Demetris Page and Ryan Miller received 4th in the 4x100 meter relay and Rockett, Page, Quinn Pitts and Anfernee McCaskill also placed 4th in the 4x400 meter relay. Rockett also placed 4th in the 1600 meter run and 5th in the 800 meter run. Miller placed 4th in the softball throw and 7th in the 400 meter run finals and Lundy received 8th in the shot put for the 8-11 year old boys events.
    In the 13-14 year old boys categories, BJ Harrison made 4th in the shotput. In addition, receiving 5th in the 4x400 meter relay were Juhwan Osborn, Syrus Williams, Caleb Hester and Cecil McCollum.
    The last group was the 13-14 year old boys. In this group, Leon Roberson received 5th in the 1600 meter run, Joshua McCoy made 5th in the shot put, and Jameico Howard made 3rd in the softball throw. Also in this group was Preston Smith who made 4th in the long jump and 5th in the standing jump.
    The GRPA is a private, non-profit institute organized to support and promote the recreation and park industries within Georgia. Statesboro-Bulloch Park and Recreational Department is part of District 1 for the state of Georgia which includes 7 districts.

SEB baseball camps
    Southeast Bulloch baseball coach Stephen Hoyle will be hosting a baseball camp at SEBHS starting Monday, May 26 and run through May 28. There will be seperate camps for pitching and hitting/fielding.
    The pitching camp will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will be available for pitchers ranging from grades four through 12. The cost will be $50.
    The fielding, hitting, and game-time situations camp will run on the same dates from 4:30-7:30 p.m. and will also cost $50.
    Participants may take part in both camps for $85.

Lee Hill hoops camp
    Statesboro boys’ basketball coach Lee Hill will hold a his summer basketball camp, starting May 26 and running through May 30.
    Rising 2nd through 5th graders will practice from 8-11 a.m., while rising 6th through 9th graders will go from 1-4 p.m.

SEB softball and soccer camp
    Southeast Bulloch soccer and softball will be May 27 - 30 at SEB High School. Soccer camp will be from 8:30 - 11 a.m. and softball will be from noon - 2:30 p.m. Each camp is $50 or both camps are $80. All day campers will be provided with lunch. BA basketball camp
    Bulloch Academy head basketball coach Chandler Dennard invites local and area boys and girls going into grades 2-5 to sign up for the 2008 Gator Basketball summer camp.
    The annual camp, conducted by coach Dennard and his staff, runs from May 27-30 from 9 a.m.-noon. This opportunity will provide campers with basic basketball fundamentals of passing, dribbling, shooting and teamwork in a manner that is both instructional and fun.
    Campers need to wear shorts, a t-shirt, tennis shoes and bring their enthusiasm and a positive attitude. All participants will receive a camp t-shirt and opportunities to win awards in various skill-level competitions.

SEB hoops camp
    The Southeast Bulloch Youth Boys and Girls basketball camp for rising 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders will be held June 2-5. BA soccer camp
    Bulloch Academy head girls’ soccer coach Will Avra invites local and area boys and girls going into grades kindergarten through fifth to sign up for the 2008 Gator Soccer summer camp.
    The annual camp, conducted by Coach Avra and members of the BA varsity boys’ and girls’ teams, runs from June 2-5 at 2-5 p.m. This opportunity will provide campers with instructional skills, fun games and age-level scrimmages.
Campers need to wear/bring shorts, a t-shirt, tennis shoes, cleats, socks, shin guards, water bottle with the camper’s name on it and sun screen and bring their enthusiasm and a positive attitude. All participants will receive a camp t-shirt.

Metter hoops camp
    The Metter Tigers Youth Basketball Camp will be held June 2-4 at Metter Middle School.
    The camp will run from 8-11 a.m. for girls and boys ages 5-13. The cost is $45 for those who sign up prior to June 2 and $50 thereafter.

BA Cheerleading Camp
    Bulloch Academy cheerleading coaches Kem Dennard and Kim Burnette invite local and area girls going into grades K5-fifth to sign up for the 2008 Gator Cheerleading Camp.
    The annual camp, conducted by coach Dennard, coach Burnette and members of BA’s GISA Class AA state champion competition cheerleading squad, will be held June 9-12 from 9 a.m.-noon. This opportunity gives young cheerleaders the chance to learn cheers, chants, dances and much more during the fun-filled week.
    Campers need to wear shorts, a t-shirt, tennis shoes and bring their cheerleading spirit. All participants will receive a camp t-shirt.
