Local Roundup: Lady Gators win in overtime

    Kacie Lanier’s put-back basket with three seconds left lifted the Bulloch Academy Lady Gators to a 59-58 win over David Emanuel Academy in Stillmore Tuesday night.
    David Emanuel trailed by as many as 10 in the third quarter before eventually taking the lead late in the fourth. Addie Reddick’s four fourth quarter free throws, including one with 10 seconds left in regulation, tied the game at 50.
    Kaylie Lanier led BA (3-2) with 15 points while Jessica Cook scored 24 for DEA (2-2) including nine in the final quarter.

Claxton girls
top Vidalia

    The Lady Tigers of Claxton beat Vidalia Tuesday night 44-39.
    Lacreasha Brewton led CHS with 15 points (all 3-pointers) and Ashley Kennedy had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Endya Jones added six points and 15 rebounds for Claxton (4-1)  who returns to action Friday at Tattnall County.

DEA dominates BA    
    David Emanuel Academy had four players score in double figures and easily handled Bulloch Academy 59-48 on Tuesday.
    Joesph Sparks had 15, Dawda Njie had 12, Logan Salter had 12 and Clifford Byrd had 11 for the Eagles (2-0).
    Jordan Walker led the Gators with 12 and BA will return home Thursday night to host Citizens Christian Academy.

    The Statesboro junior varsity boys team beat Screven County 42-37 Tuesday night.

slip past DEA

    The Bulloch Academy boys B-team beat David Emanuel Academy 30-23 on Tuesday night.
    Paul Son scored 12 for the Gators (2-1) and Ryans Sparks scored 11 for DEA (0-1).

    The Bulloch Academy B-team girls tied David Emanuel Academy 23-23 Tuesday night. Kelcie Jacobs led the Lady Gators (0-0-1) with five points.

Barnwell, Evans named to GACA team
    Megan Barnwell and Brandy Evans were both named to the GACA Class AA state softball team as Honorable Mentions.
    Barnwell is a sophmore pitcher at Southeast Bulloch and Evans is a senior catcher for Screven County.

Mohring invited
to All-Star game

    Georgia Southern’s John Mohring received an invitation to play in the Magnolia Gridiron All-Star Classic, a showcase game for seniors. The game will take place Dec. 23 in Jackson, Miss., with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.
    Mohring is one of three representatives from the Southern Conference scheduled to play. Others include Chattanooga running back Eldra Buckley and Appalachian State defensive lineman Marques Murrell.
    The second annual All-Star Game features seniors from select Division I-AA and Division II teams, playing against those from Division I-A teams.
    Mohring, who became a three-time All-Southern Conference pick this year, led the Eagles in tackles (93) and tackles for a loss (14.0).
