Youth travel baseball team Around the Horn 13AAA, won the USSSA Southeast State Championship held at Mill Creek Regional Park last week.
“It was great to see them win this title,” team coordinator Dadrian Cosby said. “This team won the 12u Championship last year and it’s exciting to come back and defend the title.”
On July 14 Around the Horn 13AAA and 12AAA teams will travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama to compete in the USSSA World Series.
Dalton Hoenig, a member of the Around the Horn 13AAA team, has been selected to play in the USSSA All American Showcase. The United States has been divided into eight different regions and Hoenig will be a member of the Atlantic Regional Team.
The team is made up of players from Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina.
The All-American Games will be played in Kissimmee, Fla., July 31 through Aug. 3.
“This is a huge accomplishment for Dalton, and I know he will represent Georgia and Around the Horn well,” Cosby said.
The Around the Horn travel teams are coordinated by the Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation Department. The teams are designed to offer the youth in the area the opportunity for more competitive play, in addition to regular recreation league play in the spring.
Tryouts for the baseball teams are coming up Aug. 16.
Around the Horn also offers softball teams as well for 12 and under, and 14 and under leagues, and those tryouts will be held on Aug. 9.
