Lady Eagles aim to continue winning streak on the road

    The Georgia Southern women’s basketball team is looking to extend its win streak to five games on the road as it faces College of Charleston, Saturday, Feb. 16.  Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. at John Kresse Arena in Charleston, S.C.
    Georgia Southern is coming off a pair of road wins at Wofford (63-56) and Furman (59-54), extending the win streak to four games.  Having earlier defeated the Cougars 64-47 at Hanner (Jan. 19), the Lady Eagles look to complete the season sweep over the College of Charleston.
    The Cougars are also coming off a recent win over Wofford (Feb. 11) by a 60-53 margin.  It is Charleston’s third win in the last four games.
    Georgia Southern holds a 21-8 all-time series lead over the College of Charleston.  Before the recent two-game win streak over the Cougars, the Lady Eagles and Cougars have taken turns in the win-loss column over the past eight games.      On Charleston soil, Georgia Southern defeated the Cougars in the final regular season contest of the 2006-07 season by a narrow 52-50 margin.  Georgia Southern holds a narrow 7-6 advantage over the Cougars in games played at Charleston.
    Senior guard Tiffany Brown leads the team with 11.6 points, 1.4 steals and 1.4 three-pointers per game, and a team-high 81.1 percent shooting from the free-throw line.  Senior guard Shawnda Atwood follows with 10.2 points and a team-high 5.8 rebounds per contest.  Sophomore guard Carolyn Whitney (Duluth, Ga.) dished out a team-best 3.3 assists per game.
    College of Charleston is paced in the scoring category by Jill Furstenburg with 11.6 points per game.  She also leads the team in assists per game (2.2) and free-throw percentage (.823).  Teammate Nikki Williams pulls down a team-best 6.9 rebounds per contest.
