Former Georgia Southern pitcher Dennis Dove was called up by the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday and made his Major League Baseball debut Monday night against the Brewers in Milwaukee, Wis.
Dove played for the Eagles from 2001 until 2003 when the Cardinals drafted him in the third round.
On Monday, Dove struck out one and allowed one hit in an inning of relief.
Dove was with St. Louis’ big-league club the majority of spring training this year but began the season in Triple-A Memphis where he had a 3.00 ERA in 12 innings of work.
Dove’s call-up was bittersweet as the Ocilla native filled the roster spot left by pitcher Josh Hancock, who died in a car accident Sunday morning.
