If you followed Georgia Southern at all last week, chances are you saw something crazy.

On the baseball field, the Eagles improved to 6-0 at home in Southern Conference games, with a little help from Victor Roache and his five home runs in two days.

There are very few opportunities at any level of any sport, really, to see a performance as impressive as that one. Seriously.

Especially when two of the bombs came in a six-run-deficit comeback win.

If you checked out some softball action, you saw the continued flair for the dramatic from the Lady Eagles. They like to get it done in the late innings, but they’ve improved to 9-3 in SoCon play after taking two of three from Samford. They almost got the third one, too, thanks to a sixth-inning grand slam by Marie Fogle, but let it slip away in extras.

Still, GSU is in second place behind (of course) unbeaten Chattanooga.

And, over at Paulson Stadium, after the first scrimmage of the spring, the Eagles almost ran out of quarterbacks.

Jerick McKinnon took most of the snaps with Jaybo Shaw avoiding contact and Ezayi Youyoute and Russell DeMasi suffering Saturday morning injuries.

They join an already long list of banged-up Eagles.

After a day off from practice Monday, they’ll get back to work Tuesday, when we can only hope everyone’s okay.

After all was said and done, it’s safe to say that it was an interesting week in GSU sports.

I’ve finally sold out

Alright, world. You win. It’s official — I’m a gigantic sellout.

Call me old fashioned, but I’ve never really gotten into the whole social networking thing. I’ve never digged, liked, or poked anything on the internet, and I’ve pretty much always tried to experience the world in, well, the world.

But it’s time for me to jump on board and get with the times. It’s time for me to get on Twitter.

When I’m covering the Georgia Southern Eagles, I often get text messages from folks who want to know what’s going on. People like to stay current on scores and stats, and can’t always get to a radio, a TV or even a computer. I get it.

So they text me, because I’m there. And rather than actually paying attention to what’s going on, I’m sitting there replying to text messages and filling everybody in on the status of the game. Especially the road games I’m able to cover.

So it got me thinking.

And Twitter was the only solution I could come up with.

So, if you want to know what’s going on in the world of GSU sports, and you want to get the breaking news as it happens, go ahead and follow @MYogus.

But, there are a few ground rules. I’m not going to "Tweet" every little detail from every practice and game I attend. I’m not going to clog your Twitter account with post after post.

That’s what the Statesboro Herald is for.

And I’m certainly not going to be letting the world know what I had for lunch or what movie I’m currently watching.

But, if you want to know when, say, the baseball team is on pace to break an NCAA home run record, or the football Eagles are going to overtime against the No. 1 team in the country, well, follow me and I’ll keep you up to speed in 140 characters or less.

And of course, you can still pick up a Statesboro Herald for all the juicy details the next day.

I’ll try the whole thing out Wednesday as the Eagles take on Mercer at J.I. Clements Stadium, because I still need to figure out how it all works.

The main point of this whole exercise I suppose is that this means you can stop texting me during games.
