The Southern Conference has named Sarah Purvis as the league’s Pitcher of the Month for February. The senior earned Player of the Week twice from three weeks and went 4-2 early in the year in six starts.
She finished the opening month of the season with a 1.08 ERA and 43 strikeouts in the opening month of the season.
Georgia Southern opens Southern Conference play on Saturday, with a doubleheader against UNCG. The Eagles close the three-game set on Sunday afternoon.
Stryker Brown named Player of the Month
Stryker Brown was named the Southern Conference Player of the Month for February.
Brown hit .406 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in nine contests last month. The senior outfielder hit safely in eight of the nine games and helped Georgia Southern finish with a 7-2 record in February.
Brown had four multi-hit games and opened the month with by going three for five at Georgia.
Brown was 2-for-4 with a homer and three driven in the next day as Georgia Southern won the series from the Bulldogs.
Brown went 6 for 13 with two homers and 10 RBI the next weekend in the Eagles' four-game sweep of Maryland Eastern Shore. He had consecutive 2-for-4 games in the series, with a first-inning grand slam in the team’s 10-1 win on Feb. 22.
