Georgia Southern coach Lindsey Vanderspiegel announced the addition of former Belmont Abbey and Coker College head coach Robert Lane as assistant coach of the Lady Eagles.
    Lane led the Crusaders to consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and was named 2010 Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year after posting a 17-1-3 record with an unbeaten 10-0-1 mark in league play.
    “Robert was the perfect candidate for the position,” said Vanderspiegel. “The experience he brings as a former head coach will pay dividends in our training and with recruiting new talent to Georgia Southern. We are thrilled to have him and I look forward to working with him in our effort to bring our program to the next level.”
    In Lane’s first year at the Abbey, his squad went 14-6 and 9-2 in league play to capture the Conference Carolinas regular season title. He coached the 2009 and 2010 conference Player of the Year with 12 student-athletes named all-conference. Belmont Abbey players earned seven NSCAA All-Region honors in two seasons.

BA drops pair to Westminster
     Bulloch Academy dropped a pair of soccer games to Westminster of Augusta Tuesday.
    The Lady Wildcats blanked the Lady Gators 4-0 in the early game while the Lions took a 3-0 win over the Gator guys in the finale.
    The BA Lady Gators won their opening match of the season Friday, a 3-2 victory over Arlington Christian at the Lady Crusader Classic at Trinity Christian School in Dublin.
    Allison Anderson led Bulloch with two goals. But the Gator girls lost 2-0 to John Milledge and 2-0 to Holy Spirit on Saturday.
    The squads are back in action Thursday, traveling to Dublin to battle Trinity Christian School. The Lady Gators (1-3) take on the Lady Crusaders  at 5 p.m. and the Gators (2-3) take on the boys at 6:30 p.m.

GSU tennis ready for weekend
    The Georgia Southern men’s tennis team (7-5) continues its six-match home stand with contests against Liberty (7-6) today and Wofford on Saturday. 
    The Eagles and the Flames meet at 2 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day at the Hanner Tennis Complex in the first meeting between the two programs. The Eagles face Wofford (5-7, 1-1 SoCon) for their second Southern Conference match of the year at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
