Local Roundup - Eagle recruit arrested, loses status at GSU

    SNELLVILLE — Georgia Southern officials reported Wednesday that former recruit Julian Suber had his scholarship and letter of intent revoked on April 21.
    The Gwinnett Daily Post reported Tuesday that Suber, 19, was arrested Monday along with Shaquan Houston, 19, on charges of armed robbery and possession of marijuana.
    According to the Post, Gwinnett police secured a warrent Monday and asked Brookwood High School police to arrest them.
    One of the arresting officers was allegedly injured by Suber, who also faces charges of obstruction of law enforcement and disruption of a public school.

Lady Eagles Basketball camps

    Georgia Southern women’s basketball coach Rusty Cram, along with his staff of Regina days-Bryan, Mary Perry and Jessica Harris and a number of current and former Eagles will host a series of basketball camps beginning June 1 at Hanner Fieldhouse.
    Boys and girls kindergarten through sixth grade can participate in the Day Camp for boys and Girls running June 1-4 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Cost per camper is $100, which includes individual awards and a camp T-shirt.
    A Team Camp will run June 7-10, and costs $200 per team.
    A Girls Individual Camp will run from June 24-26. Cost for commuters is $125 and cost for overnight campers is $200.

Portal golf tournament
    PORTAL — On Friday, June 4, Portal Middle/High school will be hosting a four-man scramble golf tournament at Willow Bend Golf Course in Metter.
    The tournament will begin at noon with a shotgun start.
    All proceeds from the event will go towards the Portal athletic department as it strives to complete the weight room for the new school opening this fall.
    The entry fee for each team member is $60 and includes a lunch.
    For individuals or businesses interested in advertising at the tournament, holes may be sponsored for $200 per hole.

SEB soccer/softball camps
    BROOKLET — Southeast Bulloch will conduct boys and girls soccer camps and girls softball camp hosted by coach Aimee Civalier on June 2-4.
    The camp features soccer coach Kristin Barnhill and SEB varsity soccer and softball players.
    Cost for each individual camp is $40.
    Those wishing to participate in both the soccer camp and the girls softball camp can do so for $75. A pair of siblings can participate in one camp for $75 or both for $140. Those registering by May 25 will receive a free T-shirt.
    The soccer camp runs from 8:30 p.m.-11 a.m. and the softball camp begins at noon.
    Campers will be provided with lunch.

    Bulloch Academy head basketball coach Chandler Dennard invites all local and area boys and girls going into grades 2-5 to sign up for the 2010 Gator Basketball summer camp.
    The annual camp, conducted by Coach Dennard and several present BA basketball players, runs from June 1-4 from 9 a.m.-noon in the school’s gymnasium. This instructional opportunity will provide campers with basic basketball fundamentals in a relaxed, fun-fill environment. Campers will receive a t-shirt and opportunities to win awards in various skill-level competitions.

SEB to host hoops camp
    BROOKLET — Southeast Bulloch will host a Youth Boys and Girls basketball camp for rising 3rd-8th graders running Monday, June 7 through Wednesday, June 9 .
    The camp begins daily at 8:30 a. m. and concludes at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $40and all campers will be provided with a T-shirt and a daily snacks.

 BA soccer camp
    Bulloch Academy head soccer coach Will Avra invites local and area boys and girls going into grades 2-5 to sign up for the 2010 Gator Soccer Camp.
    The annual camp, conducted by Coach Avra and several varsity players, runs from June 8-11 from 9 a.m.-noon at Gator Alley. This instructional opportunity will provide campers with basic soccer skills as well as scrimmages and a camp t-shirt.

FUNdamental football camp
    Bulloch Academy assistant head football coach Ronnie Hodges invites all local and area boys and girls going into grades 2-5 to sign up for the Gator FUNdamental football day camp.
    The annual camp, conducted by Coach Hodges and several present and past BA football players, runs from June 14-17 from 9 a.m. to noon on the school’s practice field behind the gymnasium.
    This instructional opportunity will provide campers with basic football fundamentals in a relaxed, fun-filled environment. Campers will receive a camp t-shirt and opportunities to win awards in various competitions.

CY hoops camps
    Georgia Southern basketball coach Charlton Young will host a series of camps in Hanner Fieldhouse throughout the summer.
    First up is Day Camp One for children ages 6-16. The camp runs from Monday, June 14 through Thursday, June 17 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day. Daily lunch is included in the $125 cost. Day Camp Two is another chance for children ages 6-16. It takes place June  21-24, Registration for Camp One is June 14, 9-10 a.m. and Camp Two registration is June 21 from 9-10 a.m.
    Young and the Eagles will also host a pait of skills camps — one on June 5 and another on August 7 — and a team camp from June 11-13.

    Bulloch Academy cheerleading coaches Kem Dennard and Kim Burnette invite all local and area boys and girls going into kindergarten through the fifth grade to sign up for the 2010 Gator Cheerleading Camp.

    Georgia Southern coach Rodney Hennon and the Eagles will host a pair of baseball camps in July for children of all ages.
    Athletes aged 6-12 can participate in the Kids Day Camp from July 6-9. Those aged 11-18 can sign up for the Eagle Overnight Camp from July 15-18.
