The Georgia Southern Baseball Dugout Club will host "An Evening with the All-Stars" Friday, Feb. 4, in the Nessmith-Lane Ballroom on campus.
    The event will get underway with a 6:30 p.m. silent auction followed by dinner at 7:15 p.m. A question-and-answer session with Major League Baseball All-Stars Chipper Jones and Jonathan Broxton and host Ryan Chambers of the Georgia Southern Radio Network will follow the dinner.
    A six-time All-Star, Jones played his entire career with the Atlanta Braves since 1995. The 1999 National League MVP played high school baseball in Jacksonville, Fla.
    Augusta native Jonathan Broxton earned a spot on the National League All-Star team each of the last two seasons. Broxton recorded a career-best 36 saves in 2009 while posting a 2.61 ERA. He has played for the Los Angeles Dodgers since breaking into the major leagues in 2005. Broxton was a member of the  Burke County Bears before being drafted in the second round in 2002.
    Tickets for the event may be purchased at the Athletics Ticket Office or by calling (1-800) GSU-WINS. Tickets are $75 for adults and $50 for children ages 17 and under. The children's ticket includes a complimentary baseball signed by an All-Star. A corporate table for eight is available for sponsorship for $800. Located at 203 Lanier Drive, the Athletics Ticket Office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and accepts Visa and Mastercard. All checks should be made payable to the "Georgia Southern Dugout Club."

BAMS wrestling takes gold
    MACON — Bulloch Academy middle-school wrestlers dominated an eight-team meet this past Saturday at Windsor Academy.
    The Gators had two first-place grapplers and three second-place finishers as they notched 90 points in the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) middle-school state invitational.
    Eighth grader Dylan Stuckey won the 140-pound classification and classmate Justin Lane took the 99-pound division.
    Eighth grader Jake Hagan was second in the 145-pound class, sixth grader G.C. Kimbrell was second in the 170-pound division while classmate Tyce Lovett was second at 112 pounds.
    Third-place finishes were claimed by sixth grader Garrett Williams (90) and sixth-grader John Daniel Brannen (88). Fourth-place efforts were turned in by eighth Judson Brannen (96), eighth grader Drew Salter (119), seventh grader Will Kauber (120) and fifth-grader Seth Conner (102)
The middle-school Gators wrapped up their 2010-11 campaign Tuesday at Benedictine Military School. The BA varsity travels to Dublin this weekend for the 2010-11 GISA Region 3 Traditional Tournament, which will be hosted by Trinity Christian School.

GSU women's tennis inks two
    Georgia Southern women's tennis coach Amy Bonner announced the signing of two student-athletes who will play for the Eagles. Cameron Williams and Alexis Prickett will begin their collegiate careers this fall.
    Williams, a four-year letter winner at Norcross, plays No. 1 singles for the Blue Devils. She was named All-Conference and Super Six for Gwinnett County, and received the Gwinnett County Coaches Award.
    Twice named to the Prince Hot 100 (Feb. 2008 and July 2010), Williams has earned a ranking as high as 218th nationally. She ranks No. 15 in the state of Georgia and is No. 68 in the Southern Region.
    Prickett, from Charleston, S.C., owns a 65-2 overall record at the high school level and led Wando High School to its fifth-straight championship. She was named the AAAA All-State Player of the Year as a junior. A recent TennisRecruiting.net Five-Star Recruit, she ranked as high as No. 36.
    Previously, Prickett helped guide her South Carolina Southern Cup Team to a second-place Silver Finish and defeated the No. 5 player in the nation.
    A National Honor Society and Honor Council member, she boasts a 4.5 GPA and is a member of the Beta Club. Prickett is the granddaughter of South Carolina Hall of Fame quarterback Mackie Prickett and has one sister, Lauren, who played tennis at Wofford.

Semipro football tryouts at Mill Creek
    The East Georgia Rebels, a semipro football team in the Georgia Developmental Football League, will hold tryouts Jan. 22 and Feb. 5 at Mill Creek Park.
    The fee for wither tryout is $30. Registration takes place from noon-1 p.m. the day of the tryouts, and the tryout itself will last from 1 p.m.-4 p.m.

GSU baseball hosting skills camp
    Georgia Southern is set to host a baseball preseason skills camp Saturday at J.I. Clements Stadium.
    The camp, scheduled from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., will be run by head GSU coach Rodney Hennon and the Eagles’ coaching staff.   
    Cost of the camp is $125 for children six years of age through their senior year of high school, and there are limited spots available. Registration has already begun.
