Fastbreak: Knox, four others honored with all-state nods

    Statesboro’s John Knox was named first team, and four other players from the area received honorable mention, when selections for the Georgia Sports Writers Association all-state football teams were released Friday.
    Knox, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound safety, anchored Statesboro’s secondary and was given top Class AAAA honors. He was joined by teammate Justin Houston, a defensive lineman, who received honorable mention status.
    In Class AA, Screven County’s Darion Carter was named an honorable mention award winner.
    Two area players  were honored from Class A. Claxton’s Delvin Diggs and ECI’s Marvin Hughes both received honorable mention awards.

Kentucky 28, Clemson 20
    NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Andre Woodson threw for three touchdowns and 299 yards as the Wildcats’ won the Music City Bowl.
    Woodson completed 20 of 28 passes.
    A large early deficit forced the Tigers (8-5), one of the country’s best rushing teams, into passing situations. Running backs James Davis and C.J. Spiller combined for just 77 yards. Will Proctor threw for three touchdowns and 272 yards for Clemson.
