Georgia Southern opened the Southern Conference baseball tournament today with a 2-0 win over College of Charleston at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C.

The seventh-seeded Eagles will play Furman, the No. 6 seed, scheduled for 8:30 p.m. today.

Justin Hess picked up the win with a complete-game shutout, baffling the hitters from No. 2 seed Charleston.

The Eagles scored both runs in the first inning and rode Hess to victory.

Charleston will play the next game, scheduled for 1:30 p.m., against third-seeded Elon. The loser of that game will be eliminated.

The Eagles-Cougars game was originally scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, but it was postponed by rain.
