The Citadel (2-3, 0-2 SoCon) is trying to figure out how to stop giving up big plays before facing Chattanooga (2-2, 1-1).
Four of the 10 passes caught by Western Carolina receivers in last week's 24-13 win over the Bulldogs went for 20 yards or more.
"Our defense has done a lot of good things," Citadel coach Kevin Higgins said. "We have just given up probably thee to four to five plays a game that have really hurt us."
The Mocs are coming off a bye week where coach Russ Huesman worked on different schemes to stop the triple option attack the Bulldogs are using this year.
"When you're playing a triple option football team, that extra week really helps out as far as having the extra preparation time because they are so hard to defend," Huseman said.
In Greenville, Furman (2-2) plays its final game outside the SoCon against Howard (1-4).
The Paladins are trying to figure out who they are after being pushed around in a 38-17 loss last week to Wofford, Furman coach Bobby Lamb said.
"We're not going to worry about Howard," Lamb said. "We're certainly going to worry about taking care of ourselves and working on our game and trying to get back and play the football we played early in the first two or three games."
The Paladins have never before played the Bison.
Since scoring 38 points against Newberry, the Samford offense has struggled each of the past two weeks. One of the few bright spots has been placekicker Cameron Yaw, who kicked a career-long 48-yard field goal against Elon and is 8-for-8 this season inside the 50-yard line.
Being at home might not be an advantage for Western Carolina (2-3, 1-1). The Catamounts have lost both their home games this season, but are 2-1 on the road.
