The Bulloch Academy Gator softball team wrapped up their regular season in style, as senior night produced a season-high in runs, and the Gators handed Robert Toombs only their fourth loss of the season winning by a final score of 14-0.
“I’m really proud of the girls the way they played today,” said Bulloch Academy coach Kyle Chambers.”We haven;t played a lot lately, and it was nice to see them jump out to an early lead and play well defensively, as well as at the plate.”
The Gators came into Thursday afternoon’s matchup having lost three straight games, but jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first, and then cruised from there. Senior pitcher Bailee Howard went the distance on the mound allowing only three hits, while striking out two.
Kacie Ricketts started the scoring with a two-run single to left. Sloan Aubrey then beat out a bunt with the bases loaded, bringing home Leah Williford for a 3-0 lead. The big inning continued as a walk to Allie Beth Presely forced one run home, Liv Finley was then hit by a pitch to bring in another, and then Baylee Howard ripped a two-run double to the fence in right. Regan Ellis capped the scoring with an RBI single to left for a 9-0 lead.
The Gator runs continued in the second. Ricketts singled to left, Hartlee Faircloth then missed a home run by inches as she hit the top of the fence in left, she’d settle for an RBI double for a 10-0 lead. Aubrey then brought Faircloth in with an RBI single for an 11-0 Gator lead.
Ricketts helped cap the scoring in the third with her third hit of the game, a two-run single to left for a 12-0 lead. The last two runs of the game came on a walk, and a hit by pitch for the final of 14-0.
While most area teams have already begun the state playoffs, the Gators earned a bye in the first round of the GISA playoffs, and don’t play until October 19th at home in a best of three series against a yet to be determined opponent.
