Robert R. “Bob” Aegan, technical sergeant, U.S. Air Force, retired, age 88, passed away peacefully Friday, July 6, 2018, at Ogeechee Area Hospice.
    Bob was born in Buckhannon, West Virginia, where he attended local schools. After high school, Bob joined the United States Air Force and retired after 24 years of service. While in the Air Force, Bob was stationed in Mississippi, Colorado, California, Turkey, Germany and Statesboro. He served during the Korean War and had two tours of duty in Vietnam.
    Upon moving to Statesboro in 1963, he worked with the radar detachment group at the Statesboro Airport and served many additional deployments in the United States before retiring in 1972.
    After retiring from the Air Force, Bob began his second career with Bulloch Memorial Hospital, where he held various positions and retired in 1992 as assistant administrator. After retiring from the hospital, he and Betty bought an RV and spent the next nine years traveling the United States.
    Bob attended Eastern Heights Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Dexter Allen Post 90, serving as post commander in 1979.
    Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Dana and Mabel Elnore Fitzgerald Aegan; and brothers, Harry, Joseph and Billy Aegan.
    Bob is survived by his wife of 61 years, Paula J. “Betty” Aegan of Statesboro; sons, Ralph Edward Aegan of Alamogordo, N.M. (Holloman Air Force Base); and Kenneth Ray Aegan (Lisa) of Statesboro; brother, Richard B. Aegan of Ellwood City, Pa.; sisters, Betty Lou Bastain (Buddy) of Nanjemoy, Md.; and Mabel Sue Silvers (Rod) of Eugene, Ore.; many nieces and nephews.
    A gathering of family and friends will be held 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
    The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2018, in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with the Reverend Harry Sherrer officiating. The burial, with military honors, will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2018, in the Georgia Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia.
