SYLVANIA -- Richard Julius McQuaig Sr., age 85, beloved husband and father, passed away on Wednesday morning, April 5, 2023, at his home with family at his side.
Richard was a son of Allen and Helen McQuaig and was born and raised in St. Augustine, Fla., the only son of their five children.
At 16 years of age, Richard married the love of his life, Edythe Glisson, and accepted Christ at the age of 24.
He proudly served in the National Guard for eight years.
Richard was a simple man with a strong entrepreneurial spirit. He spent his life working alongside his boys and grandchildren, teaching them the skills he had acquired throughout his life and passing down his work ethic.
He was happiest when surrounded by those he loved in the quiet of his home, watching a Braves game or an old western.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Helen McQuaig; and his sisters, Jeanette Nettles, Regina Lane and Marty McQuaig.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Edythe McQuaig; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Bambi McQuaig, Dale and Rachel McQuaig, Donnie and Cindy McQuaig, Mark and Kim McQuaig; sister, Joan Crowley; 13 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel.
The funeral service will commence at 1 p.m. with interment following at Bulloch Memorial Gardens in Statesboro, GA.
