Obituary - Richard Holmes Bragg Jr.
Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home & Crematory
Richard Holmes Bragg Jr.

Richard Holmes Bragg Jr., 88, entered eternal rest on October 4, 2026. Born July 19, 1938, in Milledgeville, Georgia, Richard was raised in Folkston, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life. He later lived in Brunswick and, in recent years, made his home in Statesboro, where he lived near his daughter, Beth.

Richard was the son of the late Martha Grace Lang Bragg and Richard Holmes Bragg Sr. He grew up in Folkston surrounded by family, friends and the South Georgia outdoors. Some of his fondest memories were of fishing at Trader’s Hill with cherished friends. Fishing became a lifelong passion, one he shared over the years with his parents and siblings and continued to enjoy throughout his life.

Richard began his career in the laboratory at Gilman Paper Company. Following the death of his father, he returned to take over the family furniture business. His entrepreneurial spirit eventually led him in a new direction, and in 1976 he opened Folkston Ace Hardware. He later became the owner of Kingsland Ace Hardware in Kingsland, Georgia, where he enjoyed great success before his retirement.

The business he built and its success were a tremendous source of pride for him.

While Richard took great pride in his work, family was at the center of his life. He was happiest when those he loved were gathered together, whether around an oyster roast in the winter, celebrating Easter in the spring or simply spending time visiting and reminiscing. He especially enjoyed gatherings with his siblings and extended family and could often be found telling stories about growing up in Folkston.

Richard was a lifelong member of Folkston Methodist Church, a church and community that remained an important part of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sharon Bourdette Bragg; his daughters, Brenda Bragg (Dave Burkes) and Beth Bragg Clifton (Danny); his stepchildren, Andrea P. Kumjian (Dana) and James Page (Karen); his grandchild, Blake Callahan; and his siblings, Martha Sue Bragg Wynn, Tommy Bragg, Patricia Bragg Glenn (Tom) and Kim Bragg Jones.

He was preceded in death by his son, Alan Holmes Bragg; and his parents, Martha Grace Lang Bragg and Richard Holmes Bragg Sr.

The family will receive friends at Folkston Methodist Church at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Folkston Methodist Church or The Alan Bragg Scholarship, c/o Charlton County Band Boosters.
