REGISTER/METTER, Ga. -- Mr. Jerome C. Parrish, age 73, passed into rest Saturday, August 14, 2021, at the Atrium Health Navicent, Macon, Georgia.
    The Candler County native was the son of the late JC and Frekie Lois Gurley Carete. He was educated in the Appling County School System and was a former correctional officer.
    He was a member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
    In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Hodges Carter.
    He leaves to cherish his memories: a stepdaughter, Glalinda Parrish, Jonesboro, Ga.; a grandson, Darien Carter, Jonesboro, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Yvonnie Williams, Dorothy (Eugene) Kemp, Lottie Smith and Catheleen Brown; his brothers-in-law, Willie Hodges, Harold Hodges, Darnell Hodges, all of Register, Ga.; and Nathaniel Hodges, New Orleans, La.; a host of other relatives and friends.
    A graveside funeral service and burial for Mr. Carter will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with the pastor, the Rev. Gregory Thomas, officiating.
    Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social-distancing will be enforced at the graveside services. We ask that you adhere to all CDC guidelines.
    Final rites have been entrusted to Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
