Judie McDowell Jones, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26th, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on Monday, December 26th, 1949, in Savannah, Georgia, Judie's journey through life was marked by her unwavering love for family and dedication to helping others.
A longtime resident of Florence, S.C., Judie was known for her warmth and kindness. She never met a stranger and was always eager to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
As a hard-working supervisor, Judie's tenacity and commitment to her work were unrivaled. Outside of her professional life, she held a deep affection for life's simple pleasures: solving puzzles, basking in the sun and waves at the beach and cherishing moments spent with her loved ones. Judie's family was her true purpose; she cherished every opportunity to connect with them, be it face-to-face, through FaceTime or via text messages.
Judie is survived by her loving children: sons, Richard Jones, and wife, Vanessa; Shawn C. Jones, and daughter, Lori Schiavone, and husband, Jon. Her memory will be carried on by her two brothers, David Bailey and wife, Linda; and Arthur Bailey and wife, Theresa; two sisters, Catherine Smith and Karla Neeley and husband, Larry. Judie was a proud grandmother to three grandchildren, Carter Speaks, Nate Speaks and Lauren Speaks; and one step-grandchild, Kyle Hunter.
Judie's passing was preceded by the loss of her father, Henry McDowell; mother, Norma Elizabeth; husband, Larry Richard Jones Sr.; and sister, Shirley Alderman.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home, located at 2402 South Irby Street, Florence, SC 29505, where arrangements have been entrusted.
In honor of Judie's life and her compassion for helping others, donations may be made to McLeod Hospice House, 1203 East Cheves Street, Florence, SC 29506.
