METTER – Lehmon “Earl” Dowd, 72, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Earl was born in Bulloch County and lived his entire life in Metter. During his formative years, he attended Metter High School, where he graduated class of 1972.
He worked as a lineman for EMC for 34 years before retiring. Earl was also a farmer and enjoyed fishing. He was a hard-working man who took great pride in providing for and caring for his family.
He also had a special place in his heart for animals and helped rescue many cats and dogs throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by three brothers, James Dowd, Hilton Dowd and Clinton Dowd; and a sister, Valda Prince.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Patty Hooks Dowd; his son, Russell Dowd (Jessica Brown); his daughters, Trudie Quick (Adam) and Cinnamon Dowd; grandchildren, Leslie Dowd, Robin Dowd, Audri Quick and Emma Quick; several nieces and nephews and his many beloved rescue animals.
Visitation was held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, in Metter.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel. Interment will follow at Lake Cemetery.
