Obituary - Caroline Belflower Chapman
Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home & Crematory
Caroline Belflower Chapman

Caroline Belflower Chapman, 84, of Statesboro, Ga., passed away of extended illness on August 27, 2023, surrounded by beloved family and under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.

Caroline was born the youngest of three children on March 7, 1939, to J.R. "Jimmy" Belflower and Junia Burk Belflower in Tifton, Ga.

After Caroline graduated from Tifton High School in 1957, she attended college at Tift College, ABAC and later UGA.

In 1958, she met Wayne Chapman at an Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College school assembly.

Wayne and Caroline went on to have three children, Celia, Steve and Bryan.

In 1987, after many years at Sea Island Bank in Statesboro, Caroline stepped away in order to be a fun, full-time grandmother.

Caroline was involved in Beta Sigma Phi professional women's organization and the Jaycettes, playing catcher for the women's softball team.

She enjoyed collecting eclectic antiques, crafting, listening to Neil Diamond at full volume and cheering on the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Southern University Eagles.

She explained the rules of baseball and handed down her love of the Braves down to Rachel and to DJ while she and Sydney shared a love of crafts, antiques and vintage fashion. Wherever her grandchildren were, Caroline could be found in the middle, making memories.

Caroline was pre-deceased by her parents, J.R. and Junia Belflower; brothers, Dr. James Robert Belflower Jr. and Charles Leon Belflower; and her granddaughter, Rachel Chapman.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne; her daughter, Celia Grimes, and son-in-law, Doug, and their son, DJ; her son, Steve, and daughter-in-law, Jenny Smith Chapman, and their daughter, Sydney; and her son, Bryan; along with extended family.

Visitation will be held in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home on Thursday, August 31st, from 11 a.m. until noon.

The funeral service will follow at noon in the chapel with the Rev. Joey Fennell officiating. Private graveside services and burial will be held at Bulloch Memorial Gardens at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459; or to your favorite charity.
