PORTAL, Ga. -- Mrs. Rhonda Sue Ellis Gay, age 54, died Monday at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.
    The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a 1982 graduate of Portal High School. Following high school, Rhonda attended Swainsboro Technical College, where she received two business degrees, and later attended Ogeechee Technical College, where she received a degree in business management.
    She was employed by the Bulloch County Board of Education, having worked at Sallie Zetterower, Julia P. Bryant and last as a secretary with Portal Middle/High School. Rhonda retired in 2014 due to her declining health.
    She was a member of Restoration Worship Center in Metter, Georgia.
    Rhonda’s greatest love was her family and spending as much time as possible with them. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.
    She was preceded in death by her father, Remer Ellis.
    Surviving are her husband of 25 years, Earl Marion Gay of Portal; two sons, Marion Gay and Jesse Gay; two granddaughters, Taylen Brooke Gay and Emma Rayne Gay; her mother, Glenda Ellis; a brother, Raymond Ellis; and sister, Regina Ellis Graham, all of Portal, Ga.; a nephew, Cory Graham of Knoxville, Tenn.; and a special cousin that was also her best friend, Tonya Ellis Wells. Additionally, she leaves behind her constant companion, her dog, Shadow.
    The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
    The funeral service will be at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson with the Rev. Tony Brown officiating.
    Honorary pallbearers will be Cory Graham, Laine Wells, Dylan Clayton, Greg Chester, Johnny Ellis, Lonnie Ellis, Anthony Parker, Lee Hendrix, Michael Sparks, Jody Sparks and Dylan Allen.
    The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org.
