Statesboro, Ga. — Mrs. Marie (Ree) Washburn Bailey, age 81, died peacefully in her home on May 21, 2018. She had suffered with severe respiratory problems in her last months.
Ree was preceded in death by her father, Charles Washburn; her mother, Frances Langford Washburn; and her brother, Charles Washburn Jr.
Ree was an avid Duplicate Bridge player and competed in many tournaments on the local, state and national level. In recent years, she enjoyed social bridge in Statesboro.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James Ed Bailey of Statesboro, Ga.; a son, Melville Bailey Wheeler Jr., and his wife, Jane, of Cape Coral, Fla.; a daughter, Frances E. Bailey Weeks, and husband, David, of Statesboro, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Cody Bailey Wheeler and Kathryn (Katie) Edith-Marie Wheeler.
A visitation will be held on Thursday from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home, followed by a service at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Dr. H. William Perry officiating.
A private interment will be in Brannen Family Cemetery.
