Mrs. Hazel Brown Barber
PORTAL, Ga. -- Mrs. Hazel Brown Barber, age 76, died on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice inpatient facility in Statesboro. Mrs. Hazel was a native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County. Mrs. Hazel was an employee of the Medical College of Georgia for 23 years before her retirement.
    She is preceded in death by her parents, Lehman Brown and Avis Brown; a sister, Jo Daniels; a brother, Keith Brown; niece, Kelly Brown; and great-grandson, Jacob Pollett.
    She is survived by her three children, Kim (Clint) West of Portal, Kirk (Lanell) Barber of Statesboro and Krista Williams of Statesboro; eight grandchildren, Clay (Lacie) West of Portal, Ashton (Codie) May of Portal, Tabitha Finch of Statesboro, Tiffany (J.C.) Pollett of Pembroke, Brian Barber of Statesboro, Kara Hughes of Statesboro, Kalee (Ben) of Luthersville and Kyle Sparks of Statesboro. She has 11 great-grandchildren that she loved dearly, a brother, George Hayward (Naomi) Brown of Rossville, Georgia; sister-in-law, Gail Brown of Portal, Georgia; nephews, Ken Daniels, Eric Brown, Casey Brown; nieces, Teresa Daniels, Cindy Daniels and Angela Brown. She also has one very feisty cat named Patches.
    The family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
    The funeral will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson with Toby Skrine officiating. Interment will follow in Portal City Cemetery.
    The family would like to thank Dr. James A. Meadows for taking excellent care of their mother.
