STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Cathy Howorth NeSmith, age 71, died on September 28, 2018, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.
The daughter of Bud and Alla Mae Howorth, Cathy was raised in Thomasville, Ga. After high school, Cathy moved to Statesboro, Ga., where she was enrolled at Georgia Southern College. It was at Georgia Southern where she met her husband, Donald Powell NeSmith, and they were happily married for almost 53 years.
Cathy graduated from Georgia Southern and spent her life devoted to her family and family business, NeSmith Construction.

Georgia Southern football was near and dear to her heart. Cathy took pride in being an original member of the Eagle Wing Club of Georgia Southern. Eagle Wing gave her many football “sons” over the years.
When she wasn’t cheering on the Eagles, you could find her fishing and spending time at Lake Oconee and Tybee Island. Cathy was also an avid traveler, most recently to the Mediterranean this past summer.
Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Donald NeSmith; her daughter and son-in-law, Keely and Bo Fennell; her son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Carla NeSmith; and her grandchildren, Powell Fennell, Charlie Fennell and Dalton NeSmith, all of Statesboro. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Laurie Howorth of Nashville, Tenn.; and her sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Bryant Turner of Brandon, Miss. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
