Mrs. Carless C. Lawyer

    SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Mrs. Carless C. Lawyer, age 68, passed into rest Sunday, September 16, 2018, at the Memorial Health University Medical Center. The Chatham County native was the daughter of the late Hattie Mae Hill Copper. At an early age, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio, and was educated in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, where she graduated from East High School.
    After returning to Savannah, Ga., in 1969, she attended, Savannah State College, where she graduated with a bachelor of business degree.
    Ms. Lawyer was retired from Savannah State College after 29 years of service. She also was a former employee of the Chatham County District Attorney’s office and held many other job titles in her lifetime.
    She was a member of the Jerusalem Baptist Church, where she served as the former church secretary.
    She is preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Jane Cooper.
    She leaves memories to be cherished by her sisters, Arline White, Tommie Lee Walker, Daisy Wesley and Essie Mae Baldwin, Cleveland, Ohio; a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    Mrs. Lawyer will lie in state on the day of the service from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour. There will be no viewing after the eulogy.
    The funeral service for Ms. Carless C. Lawyer will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the Townsley Chapel A.M.E. Church, 252 Eagle Street, Savannah, GA 31415, with the Rev. S. Maurice Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery, Statesboro, Ga.
    Final rites have been entrusted to Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
