PORTAL, Ga. -- Mr. Walter E. McGlamery Jr., age 87, completed his earthly journey and went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, September 26, 2018.
    He was the eldest son of Walter E. McGlamery Sr. and Marguerite Kathleen Boyd McGlamery. He was born on March 20, 1931, in Statesboro, Ga., where he completed his education.
    Mr. McGlamery served three years in the United States Air Force. He worked as a contractor salesman for 12 years in Belleville, Illinois.
    He moved back with his family to Portal, Ga., where he farmed and worked as a security officer at Georgia Southern College.
    Mr. McGlamery was a lifelong member of Temple Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. He had a deep faith and loved and trusted God in all that happened to him.
    His parents and two sisters, one infant daughter and Frances McGlamery Lowe preceded him in death.
    Surviving is his devoted wife of 65 years, Leona E. Frisch McGlamery; one son, Michael Patrick McGlamery; and one daughter, Catherine Marguerite McGlamery (Stephen) Lawson, all of Portal; five grandchildren, Dustin McGlamery, Eric McGlamery (Haylie), Shawn McGlamery, Dr. Erin Lawson and Caitlin Lawson Faglier (Michael); a foster granddaughter, Catherine Borden (Brian); five great-grandchildren, Colton Allmond, Chloe McGlamery, Zoey McGlamery, Marlie Jane McGlamery and Maddie Grace McGlamery; two foster great-grandchildren, Jordan Hill and Savannah Jade Borden; three sisters, Betty Ellis and Bonnie Campbell of Statesboro and Hazel Hartley of Savannah; two brothers, Jimmy McGlamery of Louisiana and Joe McGlamery of Statesboro. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
    Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Temple Hill Baptist Church, followed by a celebration of life service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Will Griffith and the Rev. Carlton Hendrix officiating. Entombment will be in Temple Hill Church Cemetery.
    A luncheon will follow the service in the social hall of the church following the service to share memories.
    Pallbearers will be Phil Campbell, Emerson Melton, Stephen Hartley, Eric McGlamery, Wesley Ellis and Randy McCullough.
    Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Ellis, Mike Ellis and Don Lowe.
    The family requests that memorials be sent to Kindred Hospice, 1525 Fair Road, Statesboro, GA 30458.
