STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. Samuel Lawton “Sammy” Glisson, age 78, died on Monday, June 25, 2018, at his residence under the care of Kindred Hospice.
The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County worked for J.P. Stevens Company for 10 years and then retired from Emerson Electric after 18 years of service. Following retirement, he worked for the Bulloch County Recycling Service until 2017.
He was a member of the Brooklet Primitive Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member of the Men’s Brotherhood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawton Hires and Sula Virginia Bunch Glisson; a sister, Carolyn Virginia Glisson; and his wife of 52 years, Doris Ann Akins Glisson.
Surviving are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard “Ricky” Glisson, Lee Glisson and Joe and Kristen Glisson, all of Statesboro, Ga.; five grandchildren, Robin Elizabeth Glisson, Katie Scarlett Glisson, Mackenzie Ann Glisson, Madison Reese Glisson and Joseph Daniel Glisson Jr.; four sisters, Dollie and James Dyches of Statesboro, Laura and Thomas Lanier of Brooklet, Betty Sue McKanna of Statesboro and Sandra and Jerdie Royal of Statesboro; a brother, Jesse Doy and Elizabeth “Bitsy” Glisson of Statesboro; a brother-in-law, R.L. Akins Jr. of Statesboro. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Kindred Home Health Care and Mr. John Raymond with GSU Senior Companion for their love and support.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Elder Steve Taylor officiating, assisted by Elder Bill Durrence. Interment will be in Brooklet City Cemetery with Elder Lavonne Anderson officiating.
Pallbearers will be Kelvin Lanier, Mark McKanna, Michael Dyches, Shannon Lowe, Billy Glisson and Doyce Glisson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Burney Fordham, Don Hughes and the Men’s Brotherhood.
