Mr. Leland Clifford Wise Sr., age 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 6, 2018.
Mr. Wise, a Bulloch County native, joined the U.S. Army shortly after graduating from Stilson High School in 1947. He worked at Union Camp for several years, logged timber and owned and operated Wise Trucking Company, Inc.
He was a member of Statesboro Bible Baptist Church for over 40 years and is currently a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, gardening, hunting, cooking for a crowd and baking cakes for those that were sick.
Mr. Wise was a passionate supporter of the Georgia Sheriff’s Association. He was loved by everyone and will be fondly remembered as never having met a stranger. He will be deeply missed by friends and family.
Mr. Wise was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Georgia Cornelia Wise; sisters, Margaret Emanual and Florence Faulk; and stepmother, Marie Wise.
Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Kathy Overstreet Wise, Arcola; daughters, Shirley Salter (Phil), Waynesboro; Wanda Broxton, Millen; and Ann Salter (Jerry), Waynesboro; son, Leland Wise (Lori), Statesboro; stepchildren, Melvin Ivey, Metter; Tammy Phillips (Tad), Statesboro; Kyle Ivey (Casey), Guyton; grandchildren, Jeremy Akins (Lauren), Waynesboro; Tim Broxton (Tori), Statesboro; Tara Hurst (John), Waynesboro; Tyler Wise, Statesboro; great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Greyson Akins; step grandchildren, Patrick Ivey, Wyatt Ivey, Shelby Phillips, Payton Ivey and Sidney Hall; brother, John H. Wise, Statesboro; sisters, Sara Kendrick, Stilson; Larell Blocker, Walterboro, S.C.; and Diane Lilly, Kennesaw, Ga. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation was held at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home on Friday, June 8, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 9, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with the Reverend Max Alderman and Pastor Luke Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be James Wise, Malcom Taylor, Tim Shuman, Robbie Murdaugh, DeWayne Conner and John Horton.
