SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Mrs. Marie Dickey Peavy, 95, passed away Friday night at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice and her loving family.
    She was born July 22, 1923, in Screven County, Ga., to the late Minis Albert and Annie Broxton Dickey.
    She was a member of Union Baptist Church, but attended Red Bluff Baptist Church until her health failed.
    She was a homemaker and loved to garden, cook and can vegetables. She enjoyed making crafts, especially dolls, and liked to work puzzles and listen to music.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Clinton Peavey Jr.; five siblings and a son-in-law.
    Surviving Mrs. Peavy are her daughters, Linda P. Lee and Marie Elaine Parrish of Sylvania; her sons and their wives, John Albert and Julia Peavy, William and Betty Peavy, Wendell and Martha Peavy, Calvin and Marilyn Peavy; and a special adopted sister, Myrtle Jenkins, all of Sylvania; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews and many adopted grands and great-grands also survive.
    The funeral service for Mrs. Peavy will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Mann and the Rev. Danny Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in the Double Heads Baptist Church Cemetery.
    Active pallbearers will be Joey Jenkins, Colby Jenkins, Ethan Jenkins, Dalton Jenkins, Jackson Rigdon and Daniel Peavy.
    Members of Red Bluff Baptist Church, Ed Thompson and Dr. John Odom will be honorary pallbearers.
    Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10 until 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
    The family requests that remembrances please be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-9959.
