Hodges-Moore Funeral Home
Joan Duncan Stringer, 87, died peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2018, at Southern Manor Retirement Inn, under the care of Regency Hospice.
    Mrs. Stringer was born in Scott County, Tennessee, the second youngest of 10 children. She married James Russell Duncan (deceased) and moved to Statesboro in 1948. Mrs. Stringer was married to Harley Franklin Stringer (deceased) of Statesboro, Georgia.
    She was retired from the Statesboro Police Department, where she worked as a dispatcher for 20 years, before which, she owned her own beauty salon.
    She was a natural storyteller whose common advice to her family was “Can’t? Never Could!”
    She is survived by her son, James Russell Duncan Jr. of Copenhagen, Denmark; her daughter, Rhonda Withington of Pembroke; her three grandchildren, Bonnie Bravo of Salt Lake City, Utah; Lacey Rosenberg of Washington, D.C.; and Joani Withington of Macon, Georgia; three great-grandchildren and chosen family member, Shari Morris of Bowling Green, Ky.
    A gathering of family and friends will be held 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home, immediately followed by the funeral service in the funeral home chapel officiated by Chaplin Douglas Weisel. The burial will follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
