MILLEN, Ga. -- Jack Dempsey Kent Jr., age 69, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2018.
    Jack was born January 1, 1949, at Mulkey Hospital, Millen, Georgia, in Jenkins County. He was a 1967 graduate of Jenkins County High School, where he was a member of the Beta Club, an honor graduate and a member of the football, basketball and golf teams. He graduated from the Terry School of Business at the University of Georgia and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.
    Jack enjoyed both watching and participating in sports, especially golf.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Dempsey Kent and Dreta Blackburn Kent, both of Millen, Georgia.
    Survivors include his son, Jack Dempsey Kent III, his fiancee, Amanda Kort, both of Savannah, Georgia; and his daughter, Ashley Kent North of Gainesville, Georgia. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Kent Brown; his brother-in-law, David Brinson Brown; his nephew, David Brinson Brown Jr., all of Statesboro, Georgia; and his niece, Sarah Kathryn Brown, Charlotte, North Carolina.
    The family thanks Michael and Dawn Mallard and the rest of Jack’s fellow employees at Mal-Ad Promotions, Inc., in Statesboro, Georgia, for their care and support.
    A graveside service will be held in Millen Cemetery on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Maurice Crowder officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Jenkins County High School Athletic Booster Club, c/o Mandy Underwood, 1166 Beaver Dam Road, Perkins, Georgia 30442.
