METTER, Ga. -- Eddie Dean “Coach Mock” Mock, age 55, died Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018, at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in June.
The Bulloch County native was a 1981 graduate of Portal High School. Following graduation, Eddie joined the U.S. Air Force, serving for 10 years. During his service, Eddie received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, AF Training Ribbon and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon.
Following his discharge, Eddie attended Ogeechee Technical College, graduating in 1995 with an accounting degree; graduating from East Georgia College in 1996, with an applied science degree, and in 2000, he graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Science in education.
Eddie began teaching special education at Metter High School, where he also served as the fast pitch softball coach. He later taught at Jenkins County Middle School, Southeast Bulloch High School and last at Evans County High School until August of 2017.
Eddie was an umpire, working in the area for many years.
He currently owned and operated Macky Boy’s Yard Maintenance and was a part-time mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.
He was preceded in death by his father, Malcom Lee Mock; and a sister, Imrogene Mock.
Surviving are his mother, Gertrude Thompson of Metter; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Brenda Lee Calhoun of Portal, Betty Waters of Metter and Mona Lisa and Wesley Finch of Statesboro. Many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
The family will receive visitors on Monday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Portal City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
