Sheriff's deputies arrested a woman Tuesday after determining she beat her 5-year-old son in the face with a belt. Shante Nicole Wright, 28, of Continental Road, was jailed on charges of first-degree child cruelty, Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson said in a Friday news release. Bulloch County sheriff's Sgt. Kenny Thompson responded Tuesday to Langston Chapel Elementary School for a report of child cruelty and, after meeting with school officials and caseworkers from the Bulloch County Department of Family and Children Services, "examined the 5-year-old male child, who displayed bruising around one of his eyes," Anderson said.
