Statesboro police arrested a woman Monday afternoon they say murdered her husband.
Antoinette Brady Riley, 48, Greenbriar Trail, is behind bars on felony murder charges, said Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner. The case remains under investigation, he said.
The shooting death of her husband, Michael Anthony Riley, 51, brought police to a neighborhood that is usually quiet and free of violent crime, said Statesboro Police Public Information Officer Justin Samples, who spoke Monday at a press conference held at 1 p.m. at the Statesboro Police Department just hours before Antoinette Riley’s arrest around 4 p.m.
Police still await an autopsy to determine details of Michael Riley’s death. The autopsy was conducted Monday at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Savannah.
Riley was found dead in his home when police arrived Sunday morning after Antoinette Riley called 911, he said.
Bulloch County 911 operators received the call around 6:50 a.m. Sunday regarding a "serious incident" that occurred, Turner said. "Officers and EMS were dispatched to the scene and located the victim. Officers immediately secured the scene and began identifying and interviewing witnesses and neighbors.”
Samples declined to give details of the injuries sustained, as well as the number of times he was shot.
Yellow crime scene tape surrounded the Riley’s brick home as detectives continued the investigation Monday.
Concerned neighbors were present at a press conference Monday at the Statesboro Police Department. They were not allowed to attend the discussion about the shooting, but members of Riley’s family, including two men identified as “adopted sons,” were present during the press conference. They declined to comment on Riley’s death.
