A Bulloch County woman was airlifted Sunday to a Savannah hospital after her fingers became stuck in a vehicle's gas tank.

The 27-year-old woman's hand became trapped as she tried to pour Brisk Pink Lemonade into her boyfriend's gas tank, according to Bulloch County sheriff's incident reports.

Bulloch County sheriff's Deputy Reid Odom reported being called to a location on Highway 301 South, where the woman was found with her fingers stuck in the gas tank's opening.

The woman was apparently angry with her boyfriend of three years because he was spending too much time with his friends instead of her, Odom stated.

When she attempted to pour the lemonade into the gas tank, her fingers became trapped. Bulloch County EMS and Statesboro firefighters spent two hours trying to extricate her hand but were unsuccessful, he said.

Firefighters, who had already caused extensive damage to the vehicle while trying to free the woman's hand, cut out a section of the vehicle's rear quarter panel, and the woman was airlifted by Air Evac "with the section of vehicle still attached to her fingers," reports stated.

As the woman has not yet been arrested, the Statesboro Herald is withholding her identity. However, Bulloch County sheriff's Capt. Todd Hutchens said Monday that charges may be pending. No report on the woman's condition was available Monday.

Odom reported the investigation continues and may involve violations of the Family Violence Act.
