A video of juvenile males apparently involved in a possible sexual assault surfaced this week when someone “AirDropped” it, but the actual incident reportedly took place two months ago.

Bulloch County Sheriff’s Capt. Todd Hutchens said investigators were notified last week about the alleged encounter, and an investigation is ongoing.

“At this point, we don’t even know if there is a victim” or whether the encounter was consensual, he said.

The video, which Huitchens said was brief and “not very clear,” was distributed Tuesday through “AirDrop,” which is a service offered through some Apple, Inc. operating systems, according to Google.com.

“AirDrop uses Bluetooth to create a peer-to-peer Wi-Fi network between the devices,” according to the website.

While some recipients may have received the video while at school, “no incident took place at any school,” Hutchens said.

Deputies were contacted last week about the alleged aggravated sodomy incident that occurred “about two months ago” between two juveniles at a Pinemount Boulevard location in north Statesboro. The case already was under investigation for several days when the video was shared, he said.

Sheriff’s investigators are still reviewing evidence and conducting interviews. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office at (912) 764-8888.
