Bulloch County Probate Judge Lee Deloach officially swore in Vernon Littles as the new District 5 Board of Education representative at Thursday’s regular session meeting.
Littles was appointed by the board to complete Dr. Charles Bonds’ unexpired term through Dec. 31.  Littles and other interested candidates will then run for the post in the November 2010, elections with the successful candidate taking office in January 2011. Littles was accompanied by his sons Bernard and Garrison.
Littles is a native of Bulloch County and general manager of food services at Georgia Southern University. He is a former employee of the school system having taught at Langston Chapel Middle School, and his wife Sheryl teaches at Mattie Lively Elementary School.
He is active in the community serving on the Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors and the Mattie Lively Elementary School Parent and Teachers Organization.  He is also a former recipient of the Dean Day Smith Award.
“I have a passion for this, and it’s why I volunteer so much in the community,” Littles said. “The Board of Education makes a difference in our kids’ lives, and I want to be a part of that.”
