Two youths injured in four-wheeler crash

Two girls suffered injuries in a four-wheeler crash Monday in Ellabell that resulted in transportation to a Savannah trauma center.The girls, ages 12 and 14, were riding together on a four-wheeler, traveling west on Eldora Road as they returned home from a trip to the store around 4:15 p.m., Georgia State Trooper 1st Class Jamie Holloway said.They were going too fast, and as they turned into a private gravel driveway, the one driving lost control and struck a tree.Both girls were ejected, he said. Neither was wearing a helmet.They both suffered road rash, leg injuries, and the elder girl suffered internal injuries. Emergency radio broadcasts from first responders at the scene also reported one girl was unconscious at the time, and the other suffered a hematoma to the head.The 14-year-old was airlifted to Memorial University Medical Center, while the other girl was taken to that hospital by Bulloch County EMS, Holloway said.Holli Deal Bragg may be reached at (912) 489-9414.
