Taste of Downtown, one of Downtown Statesboro's most popular "First Friday" events, can often be found on September's second Friday, thanks to football, storms or seasonal foresight.

This year, the event billed as the Wells Fargo Advisors Taste of Downtown is set for 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., Sept. 13. It's your lucky evening to take part in a scavenger hunt that involves sampling appetizers, sweets and beverages from Statesboro restaurants, mostly not on their home turf but at various downtown businesses. Meanwhile, seven or eight acts will serve a smorgasbord of live, local music at various locations.

"This year's food sampling scavenger hunt includes 35 stops and a variety of food choices," DSDA Event Coordinator Elena McLendon noted in an email. "We are especially excited with the music lineup."

To participate in the food scavenger hunt, purchase a wristband and location map for $5 at the First Friday tent on the Bulloch County Courthouse lawn. Local vendors, also set up on the courthouse lawn, will be selling handmade jewelry, handmade soaps and art, among other items.

Now, about those musical acts: Brandi Harvey will be on stage at the courthouse. Juliet Muldrew will sing and play on West Main by the new Bull & Barrel Steakhouse. Dan Larkin will perform at Eagle Creek Brewing Co.

Divvy Desk will feature Josh Waldrop. Queens and Criminals will play at Pladd Dot Music, and Christopher McCollum will play in the alley beside Georgia Southern's Fab Lab.

And a concert and street party, outside American Roofing, will feature Dylan "Sunshine" Bragg performing with Greg Kearney. This location will also be doing a drawing for a 40-inch Roku Smart TV.

Participating restaurants and treat shops include Big Boy Cookies, Bruster's Real Ice Cream, Bull and Barrel Steakhouse, Cake Bistro & Bakery, Cool Beanz Espresso Bar, Chick-Fil-A, Chicken Salad Chick, Daylight Donuts, Eagle Creek Brewing Co., El Sombrero Mexican Restaurants, Honey Too, Insomnia Cookies, Jimmy Johns, KFC, Kickback Shack, Krispy Kreme, Little Caesars, Max's Firehouse Popcorn, Mellow Mushroom, Moe's Southwestern Grill, Namaste Boro Primos, Nonna Picci, Orchid Asian, Outlaws in the Boro, Rolling Monkey, Shanes Rib Shack, Smoothie King, Smoque Pit, Soyumi, Subway, Sugar Magnolia Bakery, Tandoor & Tap, Three Tree Coffee Roasters, The Daily Grind, Uncle Shug's Chicken Barn, Wavee Shavee Ice and Zaxby's.
