Family members found the body of a woman in her Hawk Lane home Sunday, but Bulloch County Sheriff’s investigators are waiting on autopsy results before releasing information.

Bulloch County Sheriff’s Inv. Walter Deal said the death is being considered “suspicious” until further investigation.

He, BCSO crime scene investigator Bill Black and others, including a representative from the Bulloch County Coroner’s office, were called to the scene Sunday around 1:45 p.m. after family members found the middle-aged female deceased, said Bulloch County Sheriff’s Inv. Jared Akins.

“The case is still under active investigation,” he said Sunday night, hours after the discovery. The cause and manner of death remains undetermined, and the body will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Savannah for an autopsy and further investigation, he said.

While details of the woman’s death are yet unknown, Akins said there is no need for people in the community to be alarmed or in fear for their safety.

Further details will be available in Tuesday’s edition of the Statesboro Herald, and online Monday at www.statesboroherald.com as the investigation continues.
