A Statesboro woman is being held without bail today facing multiple charges following the robbery Saturday of a convenience store on Sinkhole Road.
According to a release from Jared Akins, chief deputy for the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office, Letha Richardson of Clifton Road in Statesboro entered the Lucky Foodmart #17 on the 6000 block of Sinkhole Road shortly after 6:30 a.m. Saturday. After entering, she physically assaulted the clerk, took several hundred dollars in cash and fled in a white SUV, according to the release.
The clerk said he pursued Richardson, 31, into the parking lot and fired several shots at the SUV as it sped away.
Investigator Dusty Williams was assigned the case and in working with patrol deputies was able to identify Richardson as a potential suspect.
Inv. Williams applied for a search warrant for Richardson's Clifton Road home and was able to recover evidence linking her to the crime along with most of the stolen money.
Richardson was arrested and transported to the Bulloch County Jail. She is charged with one count of robbery, one count of kidnapping and one count of simple battery against a person over the age of 65.
The kidnapping charge stems from Richardson making the victim move from place to place inside the store against his will, Akins said.
Akins said she has no bond at this time.
