A Statesboro man is in custody after two juveniles reported he abused them.

According to a release from Capt. Jared Akins with the Statesboro Police Department, SPD detectives were notified in June that two juveniles residing in Statesboro disclosed abuse which occurred approximately two years prior.

“Interviews were conducted with the juveniles and additional investigative steps were undertaken by detectives,” Akins said.

Akins said the suspect, later identified as Charles Hammons, 74, of Blue Ridge Dr., was a non-family acquaintance of the juvenile victims.  Hammons was arrested without incident by officers at his residence and transported to the Bulloch County Jail.

He is charged with two counts of aggravated child molestation and remains in custody pending further judicial action.
