A man is being held without bond in the Bulloch County Jail after deputies said he tried to stab another man Sunday night.

Around 10 p.m. Sunday, sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a home in the 2000 block of Old Register Road in response to a call about a domestic dispute involving a knife, Sheriff Lynn Anderson said in a news release issued Monday.

"Upon arrival, Sgt. Kenny Thompson spoke with the victim and multiple witnesses," Anderson said. "All parties indicated that Brian Canty, 48, Orange Street, had engaged in a verbal altercation with a female at the residence and then physically assaulted another male in the yard."

Canty then retrieved a knife from the home and tried to stab the man he struck, Anderson said.

"Canty fled the scene but was apprehended a short time later in front of Hacker's Golf Park," the sheriff said.

Canty was taken to jail and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, simple battery, and public intoxication.

He will remain in jail without bond until further court hearings, according to jail records.
