Portal police said they arrested a man Friday night after his flight from a road check led to a chase. Portal Police Chief Jason Sapp said his department was conducting a license and sobriety check near the city limits when an SUV stopped short of the checkpoint, and the driver shut off his headlights before turning around. Portal police gave chase, following the driver later identified as Shawn Eugene Rich, 33, of Soloman Circle, as far as Hopeulikit before Georgia State Patrol troopers and Bulloch County Sheriff's deputies joined in the pursuit, Sapp said.
