A 19-year-old Statesboro man was arrested early Monday morning after a shooting at Morris Heights Apartments.

Malik Rasheed Spaulding-Puckett, of Scotch Pine Avenue, remains in the Bulloch County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm within the city limits, discharge of a firearm on the property of another, possession of a knife or firearm during the commission of a felony and first-degree criminal damage to property, according to jail records.

Statesboro police officers were dispatched to Peg-Wen Boulevard around 12:26 a.m. Monday regarding a "suspicious burgundy ... Chevrolet Silverado near a residence," Deputy Chief Rob Bryan, interim chief, said in a statement released Monday afternoon.

At the same time, officers were informed that an occupant of a burgundy Chevrolet Silverado "had discharged a firearm at an occupied vehicle in Morris Heights," Bryan said.

Both Statesboro police officers and Bulloch County sheriff's deputies responded to the Morris Heights Apartments area and began investigating. The victims were located and were not injured by the gunshot, he said.

Officers and deputies located the suspect's vehicle at Proctor and West Main streets. Officers stopped the car and detained the occupants, recovering a handgun from the truck. Detective Tommy Brown was notified, and the investigation was turned over to him, Bryan said in the release.

Spaulding-Pucket, identified as the shooter, was arrested and is being held at the jail, awaiting further court action.
