Get ready to hear the trumpets playing and see the people swaying as music fills the air in Downtown Statesboro.

April's First Friday event will feature Statesboro First Baptist Church's big band orchestra, The Starlights, sponsored by East Georgia Center for Oral and Facial Surgery.

The Starlights Big Band Orchestra consists of nearly 30 skilled student musicians under the direction of Stacey Brown.

"We will be performing popular hits like ‘Rockin' Robin,' ‘Georgia on my Mind' and many of the classic oldies we are known for," Brown said. "We love being able to play for our friends, family, and the community."

Along with the beautiful melodies, the event, scheduled for 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday on the Bulloch County Courthouse lawn, will include local vendors, downtown shopping and fun for the whole family.

Catch a sneak peak of the Averitt Center for the Art's performances of "The Velveteen Rabbit" and "The Music Man." Check out the selection of vendors selling jewelry, accessories, food, drinks and more. There will be games and activities set up on the courthouse lawn, including a bounce house provided by Party Harbor.

Cake and Cool Beanz Espresso Bar will celebrate their grand opening at 58 E. Main St. Make plans to indulge yourself in some of their bakery items and a cup of freshly roasted coffee.

"Come dance under the stars as The Starlights play classic hits," said Elena McLendon, the office manager of the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority.

You're invited to shop the downtown stores, snack, and dance the night away at April's First Friday event, The Starlights. For more information, contact the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority at (912) 764-7227.
